"I wish I had known that as you start to care for others, you need to make sure you don’t lose yourself. 25 was around the age when I thought I had things pretty figured out. I started a monthly event for lesbian women in the area – a way for us to gather outside of a bar environment and support each other. I had kids. I started a bakery. Avalon Breads took off. And along the way, I just… lost me. I stopped considering me. And it took a long time to remember that I’m important too. I also need care and love and time. As you give yourself to others, you need to make space for you." |
